Premiering nationally at Cinema Mayaka with director Mbabazi Sharangabo and crew in attendance, Minimals In a Titanic World resonates deeply with our Threads of Connection theme. It invites viewers into an intimate, atmospheric reflection on how grief binds us—and how art can make that binding seen, felt, and shared.
Following its world premiere in the 2025 Berlinale Forum and its African premiere at FESPACO (Official Selection), this quietly powerful Rwandan feature tells the story of Anita, a passionate singer and dancer whose world shifts after the sudden loss of her partner, Serge. In the emotional aftermath, she finds a delicate connection with Serge’s friend Shema—together navigating the murky waters of loss, memory, and artistic expression.
Director Mbabazi Sharangabo’s storytelling feels attuned to the invisible and the in-between: the glow of neon lights, the silence between words holding a weight filled with feeling. His refusal to explain Serge’s death allows grief to take on a universal shape—one that the audience can explore more personally.
