With his adrenaline-charged debut feature Zion, Guadeloupean filmmaker Nelson Foix bursts onto the scene with a bold, kinetic story set in the streets of Pointe-ร -Pitre. At the center is Chris, a 26-year-old motorbike racer and drug runner, drifting through life without anchorโuntil a dangerous job ends with an abandoned baby in his arms.
Told in Creole and alive with the rhythms of the Caribbean, Zion races through back alleys, coastal highways, and the messy terrain of consequence. Itโs an unflinching, high-stakes meditation on care, masculinity, and the fragile threads of inherited responsibility. With nods to La Haine and Cidade de Deus, the film captures the raw energy of street cinema while carving out a voice entirely its ownโgrounded in Caribbean soul and struggle.
Screened at the iconic Cinema Mayaka in the heart of Nyamirambo, Zion powerfully echoes our Threads of Connection theme. It asks: what happens when someone who's never learned to care is suddenly entrusted with another life? Can chaos give way to tenderness? And how do the bonds we didnโt ask for become the ones that save us?
