For our Romance Under the Stars evening, we present The Taste of Things, a sumptuous period drama from Vietnamese-French filmmaker Trần Anh Hùng. Set in late 19th-century France, the film delicately traces the relationship between Eugénie and Dodin, two masterful cooks who have spent over two decades preparing meals side by side. Their love story unfolds not in grand declarations, but in the quiet choreography of the kitchen.
Starring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel, the film is a sensual meditation on intimacy, captured through the rhythms of daily ritual—chopping, stirring, tasting. In every shared gesture and careful touch, a deeper connection simmers: a love built on trust, presence, and the language of care.
Screened outdoors beneath the Kigali night sky at Imbuga City Walk, The Taste of Things invites us to consider how affection is often expressed not through words, but through the meals we make, the time we give, and the silences we hold. It’s a celebration of food as devotion—and of love that lingers, slow and tender, like something left to simmer.
